Frequently asked questions

How PestSorted works, how to check operators, and what to expect from termite and bed bug treatment.

About PestSorted

Is PestSorted a pest control company?

No. PestSorted is a free matching service. We pass your request to up to 3 NEA-licensed pest control operators who cover your area, and they contact you with quotes. We do not carry out treatments ourselves.

How much does it cost to use PestSorted?

Nothing. It is free for homeowners. Operators may pay us a referral fee when we introduce a job to them. You are never obliged to accept any quote.

Which pests do you help with?

We focus on termites (white ants) and bed bugs for homes in Singapore: HDB flats, condominiums and landed houses.

How do I know an operator is licensed?

Companies that carry out vector control work in Singapore must be registered with NEA as Vector Control Operators, and their technicians must hold NEA licences. We only match you with registered operators. You can check any company on NEA's published list of registered operators. Ask the technician to show their licence card when they arrive.

How many companies will contact me?

Up to 3. We would rather send you a few relevant operators than flood your phone.

How quickly will I hear back?

Operators set their own response times, so we can't promise a specific time. If your request is urgent, choose "As soon as possible" on the form, or message us on WhatsApp.

What happens to my personal data?

We use it only to match your request and share it with the operators we match you with, with your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time. See our Privacy Policy.

Can I get a firm price online?

Usually not. Termite and bed bug jobs depend on the species, how far the problem has spread and the size of your home, so most operators inspect before giving a firm quote. Our termite and bed bug price guides show typical published ranges.

What if I'm not happy with an operator?

Your contract is with the operator you choose, so raise issues with them first. Please also tell us, so we can stop matching people with operators who fall short.

Termites

Should I spray termites myself first?

It's best not to. Spraying the termites you can see usually kills only a few and can scatter the colony into other parts of the home, which makes professional treatment harder. Leave the activity undisturbed and take photos instead.

What are the signs of termites?

Common signs include mud tubes on walls or skirting, wood that sounds hollow when tapped, discarded wings near windows or lights, bubbling paint, doors or windows that suddenly stick, and soft or sagging timber floors.

Baiting or chemical treatment: which is better?

It depends on the termite type and your property. Baiting is commonly used for subterranean termite colonies and where drilling is unsuitable. Soil or chemical barrier treatments are more common for landed homes and new builds. Drywood termites are usually treated locally, for example with foam. A licensed operator should recommend a method after inspecting.

Is there a warranty on termite treatment?

Many operators offer warranties, and their length varies by treatment and company. Ask what the warranty covers, whether follow-up visits are included and what happens if termites return.

Bed bugs

How do I know it's bed bugs?

Look for small reddish-brown insects in mattress seams and bed frames, tiny dark spots (droppings), shed skins and small blood stains on sheets. Bites alone aren't proof, because other insects and skin conditions can look similar.

Why does bed bug treatment often need more than one visit?

Bed bug eggs can survive a single treatment, so many operators schedule a follow-up visit to deal with bugs that hatch afterwards. Ask how many visits are included in your quote.

Should I throw away my mattress?

Not necessarily. Many mattresses can be treated. Ask your operator before throwing furniture away, because carrying infested items through common corridors can spread bed bugs.

How do I prepare for treatment?

Your operator will give you specific instructions. Typically you wash bedding on a hot cycle, reduce clutter around beds and sofas, and keep items in the room until the operator advises otherwise.
