Bed bug treatment: cost and preparation checklist

Good preparation helps treatment work first time. Here are published price ranges, what changes the price, and a checklist to work through before the operator arrives.

Updated 23 October 2026. PestSorted is a matching service, not a pest control operator.

What it typically costs

  • HDB: S$250–450
  • Condo: S$350–600
  • Landed: S$500–900
  • Chemical or heat treatment, overall range: S$250–800

What affects the price

  • How many rooms, beds and sofas are affected
  • Chemical treatment, heat treatment or both
  • How many visits are included. Eggs can survive the first visit, so follow-ups are common.
  • Urgency and after-hours timing

Ask every operator the same questions: how many visits, what preparation is expected, and whether there's a re-treatment guarantee. More in the bed bug price guide.

Preparation checklist

Always follow your operator's own instructions first. A typical list looks like this:

  1. Don't move furniture or mattresses to other rooms, and don't start sleeping elsewhere. It can spread the bugs.
  2. Strip the beds. Put bedding, curtains and soft toys straight into sealed bags in the room, then wash on the hottest cycle the fabric allows and tumble dry on high.
  3. Bag clothes from affected rooms the same way, and keep clean items sealed until treatment is finished.
  4. Declutter around beds and sofas. Clear the floor and under the bed so the operator can reach every crevice.
  5. Vacuum mattresses, bed frames, sofas and carpet edges, then seal and throw away the vacuum bag or empty the canister outside.
  6. Pull furniture slightly away from walls if the operator asks you to.
  7. Plan for people and pets. Ask how long everyone should stay out of treated rooms, and what to do with pets and fish tanks.
  8. Don't throw out furniture unless the operator recommends it. If you do, damage or label it so no one else takes it home.

After treatment

  • Keep to the follow-up schedule.
  • Don't use your own sprays on treated areas unless the operator says it's fine.
  • Keep an eye on mattress seams and bed frames, and tell the operator if you see new activity.

Questions

How many treatments do bed bugs need?

It varies, but many operators plan at least one follow-up because eggs can survive the first visit. Ask how many visits your quote includes.

Do I need to throw away my mattress?

Not usually. Mattresses can often be treated. Ask the operator before throwing anything out.

Can I stay at home during bed bug treatment?

It depends on the method and products used. Ask the operator how long people and pets should stay out of treated rooms.
